The Perinatal Mental Health Therapist will work with clients and the perinatal community to promote Mama Bird’s Doula Program, increase awareness of the services we offer and provide specialized mental health services during the perinatal period.
Job Description:
The Perinatal Mental Health Therapist provides specialized mental health services to clients during the perinatal period, addressing issues such as pregnancy-related anxiety, postpartum depression, and trauma. Working closely with our doulas and the Perinatal Health Navigator, the therapist will deliver evidence-based interventions in a compassionate and culturally sensitive manner. This role requires a deep understanding of perinatal mental health, excellent clinical skills, and a commitment to supporting families through a critical period of their lives.
Responsibilities:
- Provide culturally sensitive care to clients from diverse backgrounds, demonstrating respect for cultural values, beliefs, and practices.
- Conduct individual therapy sessions with clients, utilizing evidence-based modalities tailored to each client’s needs.
- Facilitate individual and group therapy sessions, creating a supportive environment for clients to share experiences and learn coping strategies as it relates to the perinatal period and beyond.
- Provide crisis intervention and support for clients experiencing acute mental health challenges.
- Conduct comprehensive assessments and develop treatment plans in accordance with best practices and client-centered care.
- Maintain accurate and confidential client records, documenting progress and treatment outcomes.
- Implement data collection methods to track client outcomes and improve current and future behavioral health programming effectiveness
- Collaborate with other healthcare professionals internally and externally, including external medical providers and support organizations, as deemed necessary, to ensure continuity of care
Required Qualifications:
- Master’s degree in Social Work, Counseling, Psychology, or related field from an accredited University.
- Hold current unrestricted Colorado licensure with the ability to practice independently as a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) or Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC)
- Experience working with individuals receiving Medicaid benefits
- Specialized training or experience working with pregnant and/or postpartum populations and/or pregnancy related conditions
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively within a small multidisciplinary team.
- Strong understanding of Medicaid systems, commercial payers, and proficiency in professional documentation aligned with payor requirements
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Commitment to culturally sensitive care.
- Basic understanding of coding requirements necessary for reimbursement
- Ability to work 20 hours per week during scheduled business hours
Preferred Qualifications:
- Bilingual/Trilingual experience is a plus
