Meet Birdie Johnson, a Denver native whose journey from massage therapy to doula work began in 2010, igniting a profound passion for supporting pregnant women and families. As the Founding Executive Director of Mama Bird Doula Services and Owner of Mama Bird Maternity Wellness Spa, Birdie champions holistic well-being and reproductive justice, particularly within BIPOC communities. With 12 years of experience as a certified massage professional and multiple certifications as a Full Spectrum Doula and Lactation Educator, Birdie brings extensive expertise to her mission of promoting awareness and access to professional doula support. Through her community engagement and commitment to social causes, Birdie embodies compassionate support and wellness advocacy, making her the fearless leader of Mama Bird Doula Services.

Meet Felicia Hawkins, a seasoned healthcare professional and dedicated advocate for expectant mothers, and Mama Bird’s Doula Mentor. With 24 years of dynamic patient/client care, a doula certification, and robust nursing expertise, Felicia brings a wealth of knowledge and passion to the organization. As a doula mentor at Mama Bird, Felicia guides mentees through their transformative journey in the field of doula care, showcasing her commitment to supporting new professionals. Her nursing background as a Registered Nurse and Nationally Certified School Nurse, combined with her pursuit of a Master’s of Science for Midwifery, demonstrates her dedication to holistic healthcare. Felicia's professional journey includes impactful roles such as a Birth Doula at Pride & Joy Doula Services, LLC, where she provided unwavering support to expectant mothers and facilitated effective communication with medical staff. Her alignment with Mama Bird's mission of empowering BIPOC pregnant individuals for better birth outcomes further amplifies her impact as Mama Bird’s Doula Mentor.

Emma's transformative experiences as a Doula and Abortion Clinic Escort have honed her interpersonal skills and deepened her passion for supporting expectant parents. Her unwavering commitment to reproductive justice, bodily autonomy, queer and trans liberation, and anti-racism is evident, and her alignment with Mama Bird's mission of increasing visibility for families of color and creating systemic change through education underscores her passion for equitable maternal healthcare. Emma is excited to contribute her passion, commitment, and dedication to further Mama Bird's impact and success.

Nyanna Quoi

Meet Nyanna Quoi, Mama Bird’s dedicated Perinatal Mental Health Therapist with a passion for fostering healthy individuals, relationships, and communities. Originally from the East Coast, she values authentic, connective relationships and strives to create a safe space for clients to explore their identities and unlock their freedom. Using a sociocultural and trauma-informed approach, Nyanna addresses issues related to relationships, anxiety, depression, trauma, personality and mood disorders, self-esteem, life transitions, women’s issues, racial injustice, LGBTQ+ issues, and identity development.

Meet Ta'Shara Toombs, a dedicated educator with over 25 years of experience teaching, and Mama Bird’s newest doula. She brings joy and foundational skills to her students, fostering lifelong learning—an approach she carries into her work as a doula, supporting families with the knowledge and care needed for a positive childbirth experience. Ta'Shara, who resides in Colorado with her husband, is also a devoted mother to her 21-year-old son and 18-year-old daughter. Ta'Shara is committed to assisting new parents with advocacy, guidance, and referrals to community resources throughout the Denver-Metro area, covering self-care, lactation, and healthy parenting.
